5-18-2014

On the Upper Field in Game 1, Club 498 narrowly upset the Instituiton for Savings by a score of 9 to 8. Mike Blake took the win for the 498 behind the hitting of Peter Garand (4 for 5, HR), Jared Graham (3 for 5), and Craig Barton (3 for 5). Barton also provided a strong defensive game in the outfield for the 498.

Taking the loss for the IFS, was Larry White, although throwing a great game with stellar defense provided by Charlie Michaud, it wasn't enough to take down the 498. Joe Greenwood, Craig Dupray, Mike Dupray, Steve Turner, and Dave Woods, all pitched in offensively.

The grudge match; Game 2, behind the pitching of Steve Turner, the bankers defeated the 498, 14 to 10 with a strong game offensively and defensively, with everyone pitching in.

Taking the loss for the 498 was Scott Higgins. Scott Garand (4 for 5), Peter Garand (4 for 5), and Pat McIntosh (3 for 5), were the leading offensive stars for the 498.

Over the Stephen Grimes Field, SCL Home Services swept the undefeated Saint Lawrence Club with a 14 to 11 score in game 1. Mike Jeannotte had the win, also helping out the cause offensively with 4 hits. Mike Santiano (4 for 4), and Steve Lombara (3 for 3) the keys to the SCL offense.

Notable hitters for the Saints were Doug Howland (3 for 4), and Tom Moore (3 for 4). Taking the loss for the Saints was Doug Howland.

In a battle of game 2, the offensive charge behind a monster home run from Steve Lombara, Alex Nichols (3 for 3), and Scot Morrison (3 for 4), a fine pitching performance from Pete Robbins, and solid defense from Don DellaValle (Double D) at second base, proved to be too much for the Saints to handle.

Mike Stasiuk, taking loss pitched a great game, but the bats of Jay Viatale (3 for 5), and Doug Howland (3 for 5), weren't enough to take the win in game 2.

5-09-2014

FIELD SKINNING IS NOT GOING TO TAKE PLACE TOMORROW DUE TO EQUIPMENT AVAILABILITY! HOPEFULLY WE WILL BE ABLE TO SCHEDULE SOMETHING IN THE NEAR FUTURE!

5-06-2014

This coming Saturday, 5-10-2014 at 9:00, we will be skinning the infield on the outer field and putting down a new clay surface. Not only will this provide a better field for play, but more importantly a SAFER infield; eliminating those nasty hops and twisted ankles.

Ipswich Men's Softball League has 60 +/- active members, with another several players on a waiting list. We tried to schedule a time before opening day to do the necessary improvements to the field, however we only had a handful of guys willing to help. In my opinion this is unacceptable. We are a league, in which myself Craig Dupray, Scott Garand, Tim Galanis, and Richie Dodson have spent a great deal of time during the off-season to make this league what it is today. Both Larry White and Steve Lombara, are generously donating the use of their equipment (10 wheel dump truck, bobcat) for the day at their own expense. I know Larry only gets about 5 miles per gallon, so that is a huge contribution.

Bring a rake, shovel, wheel barrow, etc... or just yourself, and help us make this happen efficiently and productively...THIS IS FOR ALL OF US!!!!!

5-05-2014

WELCOME BACK!! On a brisk and windy opening day, the Ipswich Men’s Softball League took to the field. Welcoming back our team sponsors, SCL Home Services, Institution for Savings, Carrolton Club 498, and new comers, Saint Lawrence Literary Society.

On Doyon 1, the battle of the local watering holes took place, Carrolton Club verse the Saint Lawrence! Unfortunately for President Scott Garand and team Carrolton Club, they were swept by the Saint Lawrence, captained by Brian Story. On the Stephen Grimes field, the Institution for Savings captained by Craig Dupray and Paul James, took on SCL Home Services lead by Mike “Gino” Jeonnotte and Tim Galanis, in what turned out to be a blow-out in game 1, as the Institution destroyed SCL by a score of 29 to 6 with strong plate performances from Paul James and Charlie Michaud with back to back homers, Joe Greenwood, and Mike Dupray. SCL leading hitter was Barry Eaton with 4 hits.

In game 2, SCL rallied back to beat the Institution with a fine hitting performance from Joe Napoli, Pete Robbins, and Gino going 4 for 4; stroking a dinger to force a split in the first week of action.

Ipswich Men’s Softball League would like to thank SCL Home Services, Institution for Savings, Carrolton Club 498, and the Saint Lawrence Literary Society for their support in sponsoring teams for the 2014 season. IMSL would also like to thank returning corporate sponsor, Sullivan Insurance, for their continued support in providing the best insurance has to offer. Special thanks to the Ipswich School System for allowing us continued play on the Doyon fields.

PLAY BALL!!!!!

4-6-2014

1. Start date will be Sunday May 4th at 9AM we urge all players to be there at 8:30 AM to make the start of the season easier on everybody.

With this new year we are going to try something new and take Mother’s Day off as a bye week. So the 2014 Schueled bye weeks will be.

1. Sunday May 11th

2. Sunday May 25th

3. Sunday July 6th

So as you can see we are doing away with bye week at the end of July which also means no rain make ups. If it's a rain out it’s a split and we move on. We will try this for this year and if it works out we will keep it intact for future seasons.

2. Field Maintenance- Tim Galanis, Scott Garand, and Craig Dupray all went before the Ipswich school board and obtained approval to skin the back infield. Due to the fields being too damp and soft, we are looking to have a field maintenance day April 19th @ 9:00, obviously weather permiting. We are asking ALL league players to attend the field maintenance event to make the day go quicker. Along with bodies we are going to need shovels, rakes, edgers etc....so if you can come for the whole day or part of the day it will be appreciated.

3. Teams, sponsors and shirts- For the most part the teams will remain the same but their will have to be some changes to make the teams even. We also have a decent number of new players that will need to be placed on teams. We know certain players want to play with certain people and we will do our best to make accommodate those requests. New shirts have also been ordered and yes we will not get black. At this point all the sponsors are going to remain the same with the exception of St Lawrence being added in place of Bruhm Tire.

4. Rules Changes- For the 2014 season the following rules were voted on and approved for change.

1. We will be allowing players when they over run a base, fall down etc to be able to dive back into the base instead of having to regain their footing. (To be clear we are not allowing straight sliding and will still be an out).

2. The over throw rule will be followed by the ASA rule book this year and will not follow the previous rules that were in place.

3. Schulte Rule will be in effect! No player shall be added after July 1st with the exception of a team falling below 10 players.

5. Dues for 2014- The dues we requested and voted on will be $90.00. This will help with the cost of the back filed repairs, and keeping intact other yearly activities too include, year-end cookout, free beer on Father’s Day, etc.

5. Dues for 2014- The dues we requested and voted on will be $90.00. This will help with the cost of the back filed repairs, and keeping intact other yearly activities too include, year-end cookout, Father’s Day, etc.
