League Meeting - 2/26/2017

 

Minutes:

 

We will be drafting teams again this year. Captains will be selected by the President. We are finalizing the roster for the draft. We have until Friday 3/10 to add players. Contact any of the 2017 league officers to add someone.

 

I have not heard back from the following people and don’t know if they will return to play. Have them text me at the number below if they want to play: Beaver, Blake, Graham, Kimball, Moniz, Pagley, Williams, Wilson

 

Notes from the league meeting this afternoon – some big changes

 

The following were voted in as 2017 officers:

President – Mike Jeannotte

Treasurer – Tim Galanis

Secretary – Craig Dupray

Field Director – Larry White

 

Changes to rules and by-laws voted by majority:

 

1 a– change officer vote from league meeting to last regular season game. Change officer tenure from league meeting –league meeting (feb – Feb)  to After Playoff final - Playoff final game (Aug-Aug)

1b - change paragraph 02 F from “Players who nominate themselves for any League Officer position will be added to the annual ballot. League Officers will be elected at the annual League Meeting, by majority vote.” To “Players who nominate themselves for any League Officer position will be added to the annual ballot. League Officers will be elected at thelast regular season game, by majority vote.”

1c - Delete 02 E. “League Officers and Team Managers must have 3 years consecutive or 5 years total in the league to be eligible for their position. This rule does not apply to assistant managers.” 

This will provide better continuity over the off-season

 

2 – change to allow women to play in the league. This is not a co-ed league. The difference is there is no requirement for the amount of women on a team or for an equal amount of women on each team.

We currently do not have any women on the roster. This will not be a co-ed league, despite misogynistic Facebook chatter Re-vote on this on this topic took place and was voted down by the league 21 to 15 in favor of keeping it a men's league; 36 members cast their vote out of 56 active members.

 

3 – change to an all wood bat league. Premium wood bats will be furnished by the league for each team. Players may bring their own wood bats to be used by any person playing on the field. If a player’s personal bat is broken, that player who broke it assumes the responsibility to replace. Women may use any ASA bat, metal, composite or wood.  Re-vote on this topic took place and was upheld 22 to 12 in favor of switching to a wood bat league; 34 members out of 56 active members cast their ballot on this topic.

 

4- (The Charlie rule) After a two strike count the batter gets one additional foul ball. Any foul ball after that the batter is out. For example, Tim has an 0-2 count. He then fouls the next pitch off. He is allowed to bat again. He fouls the next pitch off, he is called out.  Re-vote on this topic took place and was shot down 26 to 9 in favor of abolishing this rule.  35 members out of 56 active members cast their ballot.

 

5– Concessions Director was added as an officer position, but does not need to be a league member.   Sarah Mutusiak was voted as Concessions director.

 

6 – (The Mike Downes rule) – Playoff Eligibility Rule – Players need to play in ½ of eligible regular season games to be eligible to play in the playoffs.

7 – Pinch runners will be the last out.
